Reno Modern

Reno, Nevada

This 6000-sf ultra-contemporary house was completed in November of 2013. The detailed home has many unique features, including a custom pool with “floating” step stones, operable Venetian plaster bas-relief television cabinet, built-in olive burl bookcases and matching fireplace surround. The use of hot rolled steel, zinc, and western red cedar siding, and colored CMU block create an unexpected blend of texture on the exterior that carries into the interior. The wide plank rift oak flooring is tapered and laid perpendicular to the radius hall that runs the length of the house. The house generates the majority of its own power with the use of its solar panels. Dianda Construction’s “outside of the box” thinking has led to the high-quality finish on all the special and unique details that make this house so impressive.

As you approach the residence, you notice the sculptural curved zinc spine projecting from the asymmetrical roofline. Complementing the contemporary architecture, the interiors reflect modern clean lines and serene materials selected to allow the international collection of art to take center stage on a background of polished plaster and wool herringbone wall covering.

The home was designed by Aspen Leaf Interiors (www.aspenleafinteriors.com) for a mature client passionate about the arts, travel, and philanthropy. The home’s intention was to be a gathering place for large formal groups as well as small intimate circles to mingle, exchange ideas, and inspire.

Wishing to integrate original pieces of great mid-century furniture designers, careful consideration was given to scale and proportion, fabrics and finishes that magnify lighting, and flow that encourages exploration from one space to the next.
